Outstanding

We wanted t say thanks again for making our stay in Maui so special and memorable. We loved the quaint solitude of the cottage. The view is awesome, but it's all the little details that we will remember...the delicious fresh pineapple and unique bananas, the wonderful smelling hand soaps, the myriad of resources about all the local hot spots, and our friendly, smiling hosts. We plan to recommend Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage to everyone we know planning a Maui trip!

Wonderful Maui Cottage

Our stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was extraordinary. The location and amenities were perfect as we sought to unplug from society for a week. Being only minutes from Haiku, and a few more from Paia the cottage is wonderfully located.

The cottage itself is wonderfully sized for a couple. With lots of outdoor space (showers, tub, etc), updated appliances, a comfortable bed, and granite counter tops it was actually hard to leave the cottage to explore Maui!

Our explicit thanks to Barbara for being a consummate host! From a touching welcome, to information and supplies when a storm passed the island, she was always friendly and accessible. (Thanks!)

Welcoming Cottage

Coming to Maui was a celebration and our life together and all we have in front of us. Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage could not have been better or lovelier. We felt at home the minute we walked thru the door.

You were both so welcoming and warm...it was just all so wonderful. Memories we will rerun many times!

Perfection

We celebrated our 40th anniversary here and could not have selected a better place to stay. Everything seems to be in like new condition. We have always prided ourselves on leaving it better than we found it but will be hard pressed to do that here. Barbara and Hank are the perfect hosts sharing their awesome lifestyle and produce while respecting your privacy. I highly recommend Ho'okipa. Bayview Cottage.

A Real Life Dream

The cottage is even better than advertised! This beautiful home is nestled amongst a rain forest paradise with complete privacy, a view of the ocean, and every amenity you can imagine. This is truly one of the best places we've stayed. The Kline's include everything from beach towels and chairs, a cooler, island snacks, to basic toiletries. I must admit, I had to have one of the glycerin soaps for later use! The welcome packet included all sorts of information for shopping and dining, information about the cottage, and fresh local fruit.

Around every corner is something to make your stay perfect like the outdoor soaking tub, large hammock, and BBQ grill. Sleep with the windows open to be lulled to sleep by island breezes and wake in the morning to tropical songbirds.

The cottage was impeccably clean inside and out and I felt at home from the minute we arrived. I never met Barbara, but she called to welcome us and answer any questions. The Kline's are right next door should you need anything. This will be the only place we stay when we visit Maui, hands down.

Perfection

Our stay at this cottage was a dream. It was very clean and everything seemed new and well taken care of. It was in a perfect location close to a wonderful beach and many fine restaurants, and yet secluded and surrounded by a beautiful tropical paradise. The thing we liked most about the cottage was the attention given to all the little details.

We loved having small digital clocks on both sides of the bed, there was a clothes hamper and hangers in the closest, many nice mirrors in the bathroom area, a washer and dryer, an outdoor shower, the privacy and quiet, and I could go on and on. The owners seemed to have thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. This is definitely the place to stay when you visit Maui.

Tranquil location, Beautiful views, Super clean, and Comfortable

If you hate resorts and hordes of people this is the ideal place to stay. Lots of kitchen equipment to make your own meals, big deck to loll around watching the weather come and go, listen to the birds or just enjoy the verdant view. This property is tastefully decorated and immaculately maintained with owners who respect your privacy.

Best Homeaway Rental on Maui

The property is everything it says it is and more, beautiful and private (great romantic get-a-way or relaxation retreat). Upon arrival, we were met with a wonderful welcome basket and the property was spotless. The view and gardens are amazing, we loved the outdoor shower and tub; and waking up to the sound of the birds was wonderful. Coffee on the large deck and enjoying the sunrise and a glass of wine and dinner watching the sunset... need I say more. It is a one of a kind location that you will not want to leave! We are already looking at dates for a return visit.

Truly Spectacular

Our stay at the Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage was wonderful. We spent several days researching on HomeAway comparing all of the rental options in Maui and this was our first choice. The cottage is impeccable clean, you have everything you need supplied, and the view to the ocean from the lanai is amazing. Plus it is totally private and quiet. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower and two person soaking outside on the lanai. We were originally booked for one month, and loved the place so much we stayed an extra week! Hank and Barbara are wonderful hosts...they give you all the privacy you want, but are there if you need anything. We especially enjoyed eating fresh oranges, tangerines, mangoes, and even turmeric from Hank's garden. The cottage has a wonderful central location, where you can travel to Hana or Haleakala very easily. We loved Baldwin beach, just 15 minutes away. Haiku, a five minute drive from the cottage, has some wonderful local restaurants - we'd highly recommend Nuka -unbelievable quality sushi and one half of New York prices. In Paia, 15 minutes away, there are numerous great restaurants (We liked Hana Ranch Provisions) and probably the best health food grocery store we've ever been to - called Mana - wonderful organic food, fresh fish, and great take out options. We hope to return to this wonderful retreat again! We would highly recommend this cottage for your trip to Maui.

Absolute Paradise!

I cannot really say anything new, as the reviews for this amazing property say it all (we booked based on all the comments), but perhaps to build on the previous comments - if you want a private, restful, beautiful real Hawaiian experience, look no further. This was the real Hawaii! Every time a local would ask where we were staying and we said a private cottage in Haiku, we had comments like 'well done', 'that's the real Hawaii', 'smart choice'! We aren't resort people at all, that's okay for short stays but we wanted a place we could unwind and regroup after a fairly gruelling year. Barbara and Hank are fantastic hosts, they have anticipated what couples like us want when they go away and they ticked every box on our list! I wasn't sure about the outdoor shower but that was an experience in itself. I'm sad to be back home showering in confined spaces! We explored all over the island and this was the perfect base location to explore from. Upcountry is beautiful - get ready to drive some windy narrow roads (crazy but people drive slow and are considerate) and get out and experience Aloha! We can't wait to return and would stay here again - nothing else could ever compare. Thank you Barbara and Hank!!! Mele Kalikimaka!!

Highly Recommended

Staying at Haiku Cottage was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations we have taken. It is beautiful, private, peaceful and immaculate, with a wonderful view both from the outside wrap around porch and the inside with floor to ceiling windows. It is obvious that Hank and Barbara treat the property with tender loving care as the landscaping is spectacular and lush. Their attention to detail is also evident in the well maintained cottage which offers all the amenities you require. We highly recommend this special place and hope to be back soon!

1st Class!

We came to Hawaii to celebrate our 25th anniversary, For our stay in Maui we chose this cottage and we were glad we did. Looked good on the website, but upon arrival we were wowed by everything. Location, condition, amenities and privacy. Everything was top shelf. It made our stay extra special. The attention to detail was over the top. The welcome basket was a nice touch. When we return to Maui this is where we will be staying again.

Paradise in Paradise

this property is truly a jewel. It is surrounded by lush vegetation, trees and makes it feel like you are on your own island. The owners, Hank and Barbara are friendly and the home is in excellent condition. We enjoyed the garden goods and fruit from the property. The home is laid out well for a couple and adequate in every way. It was also nice to have a small town, Haiku, a few minutes away to eat or get groceries when you didn't want to go far. You cannot hear the ocean, but you can hear many birds, which was pleasant and not overwhelming. Being located near Paia, you could travel to the larger cities and beaches in very reasonable time. We recommend this home to any couple, if you like clean, comfortable properties in excellent condition with privacy.

Beyond Words

The pictures can't possible do this property justice. It is beyond words. We have traveled to Hawaii multiple times and stayed in some of the finest resorts. But, I will always want to stay in this fabulous cottage from now on. This property is so well maintained and the service is more than amazing. The bed is extremely comfortable, the outdoor shower and bath tub were a great hit, and grounds are better than I could have imagined. The owners have paid attention to every small detail. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone. Thank you Barbara and Hank for making this one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had the privilege of taking!

Ideal Cottage

This property was lovely. Our hosts were helpful offering tips on things to do and it is well located for what we were looking for. Every detail was thought through and organized. There was fresh fruit from the fruit trees on the property. We had a great experience.

Like Living in a Treehouse

All of the descriptions of this charming cottage are totally accurate, and the owners were so nice and helpful while still allowing us all the privacy you could want. The directions for finding the property were excellent as it is quite hidden away. A lovely gift basket of fresh pineapple and other island goodies awaited us. The king size bed was most comfortable. The cottage was immaculate, very well stocked, and I might add very solidly built. We selected this spot because it is only about 10 minutes from Mama's Fish House. We loved the cottage and the hospitality. It is a gorgeous spot with lots to offer.

Five Star Fantastic Vacation

Our stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was Five Star all the way! We viewed at least a hundred rentals before deciding the Cottage ticked all the boxes! So very peaceful in the country yet close to activities. Truly enjoyed drinks & meals on the deck and long distance views without any homes or buildings in sight for miles. The cottage was a joy - feels much larger than it is because of the private setting and picture windows. We did have a lot of rain during our 10 day stay but that added to the enjoyment of Maui. Even though you cannot see the creek at the bottom of the canyon, we could hear the rushing waters. The cottage is always comfortable no matter the weather. Warm-excellent ventilation or cool-just close the windows. Barbara was especially helpful with information requested on farmer's markets and we had a wonderful time at the swap meet at the college. Borrowed the cottage umbrella and felt like a local shopping in the warm Maui rain! Another day we borrowed the beach chairs and umbrella only to discover an gecko had traveled with us! The cottage is surrounded by colorful tropical flowers and fruits. All the locals were very friendly. Had a great adventure with Haleakala Bicycle Co. Old Lahaina Luau, Maui Tropical Plantation HAPA dinner show, and bought T-shirts for family back home from the local Paia Firemen. Absolutely 5 star with Barbara and Hank being perfect hosts. All we can think of is returning again and again.

This is an Enchanting Cottage We thoroughly enjoyed this little house. It overlooks a picturesque ravine, with the ocean in the distance. In the morning the doves coo and the breezes blow through (if you leave the screened doors and windows open, which we recommend). We used the outdoor bath every night and drank Kona coffee on the veranda every morning, with fresh pineapple and papaya (our hosts left us a lovely basket of fresh fruit and other goodies). The cottage is immaculate and has everything you need, including cooking supplies. Nearby Haiku has a couple of great restaurants if you aren't in the mood to barbecue. This is a lovely place to come home to after venturing out on the island. You won't want to leave!

HEAVEN ON EARTH

This cottage is exactly as described only better! The beauty, peacefulness, and privacy we enjoyed was only enhanced by the kindness and comforts that Barbara & Hank provided. We were greeted by flowers, fresh fruit, and a true Aloha spirit. Very clean, abundantly supplied, convenient to all adventures, as well as, a perfect quiet spot for a beautiful ocean view. We hope everyone we know has the opportunity to experience Maui from this fabulous porch!

Paradise for big-towners in search of solitude

Too many things to praise, but will try. - Barb and Hank - the most lovely people. Barb has the most gorgeous smile, Hank the most delicious fruit offerings; both are vey discreet.

- Bed: big, comfy, with the softest bedding. - Atmosphere of the cottage: the coziest. A pleasure!
- Supplies/equipment: Yes, everything that you need, ranging from a set of pliers, through pots and pans (un-scratched ones - a miracle on its own), to little tubes of tooth paste.
- View: Gorgeous. All's green, hilly, with some bursts of colour and, yes, the sea. Beautifully maintained yard.
- Sounds: A match to the above (a creek, some cows, some roosters).
- Tub on the deck and outside shower: Fun!
- Access to shopping and beaches: between 10-30 minutes, depending where you want to go, you may get to Paia restaurants/shops (the closest), or to sun-drenched, hot beaches of Kihei (the farthest).

In all, we loved it at Barb and Hank's. Strongly recommend!

AMAZING!

I can't even begin to explain how perfect, beautiful and private this cottage was for us. We went to Hookipa Bayview Cottage for our honeymoon and we didn't want to leave! The scenery with the trees, flowers and fruit all around was amazing. The view of the water was incredible and the cottage it self was the perfect setting! We can't wait to go back and stay here for our 5th anniversary! Not to mention barb and frank were so kind and inviting when we arrived!

Hank and Barbara,

Karen and I had a wonderful stay at Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage last week during our anniversary and birthday celebrations--it was a very special experience for us. The cottage's beautiful amenities, stunning views and impeccable condition were only exceeded by your kindness. You are exceptional hosts!

Thank you especially for allowing our extended stay into Friday afternoon to accommodate our late departure--this made for a very relaxing last day.

We hope to meet again someday and will recommend your home to anyone seeking a romantic getaway on Maui.

PERFECT BEAUTIFUL AMAZING LOCATION FOR COUPLES

This is the perfect rental property for just the two of us with everything you'll will need for a convenient stay. There is a large refrigerator and freezer to stock whatever you need from a local grocery just 5 minutes away. I've cooked almost every night on the two burner stove. The kitchen appliance are there and Barbara & Hank thought of everything you' ll need!! Every morning we had breakfast out on the lanai (balcony) overlooking the amazing view of the valley and ocean, see photo in description listing. It's accurate. Very peaceful and soooo relaxing. Great way to start the day. There is Wifi for us to book activities online. We went scuba diving, horseback riding after doing the Sunrise at Haleakala (recommended). Hana road tour. The owners Barbara & Hank are wonderful neighbor. You won't see them unless you need them. This is important because of the outdoor showers.

Tip:
Take a outdoor shower the first thing you do when you arrive. Once you do, you'll never take a shower indoors again. Trust me. It's soo amazing. The showers are located where it is secluded and private. There is shampoo there for you. Let's not forget the hot tub! It's hard for us to say anything negative about our two week stay here. Thank you Barbara & Hank for a wonderful vacation. You'll hear from us again when we return again.

A dream cottage for nature lovers!

Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage is simply paradise. My husband and I felt we had stepped into a magical dream world. Every morning we woke to the welcoming murmur of mysterious waterfall and the gentle chirps of the (naturally happy) birds. No need for air conditioning here - the temperature is just right for wearing shorts during the day, but dips down into the sixties at night - perfect for sleeping. Thus we enjoyed the rejuvenating experience of breathing fresh air 24 hours a day. The only neighbors we could see were the cattle grazing and the leaping deer -leaping for joy, no doubt, in the distance. Ho'okipa Bay shimmers when the sun reluctantly says good day.

The cottage is well appointed and the bed is comfortable. Barbara's gorgeous, extensive landscaping lent us privacy, and the scents from the exotic flowers wafting on the gentle trade winds sparked this writer's imagination. The Klines are super friendly, and Barbara made sure we have everything we needed to make us as comfortable as possible and she was helpful to in suggesting places the locals swim, shop and eat. Haiku is just the destination we were looking for - out of they way, but close to Paia and the North Shore. We came away feeling years younger.

Thank you, Barbara for sharing your little corner of heaven with us!

What a delightful place this is!

For almost 3 weeks in February/March this year (2014) we had a wonderful stay at this spacious and tastefully furnished, well equipped cottage (it bespeaks the hosts' love for creating a welcoming atmosphere) nestled in the magnificent countryside of Haiku. Very inviting to simply be there, enjoying the tropical scenery and the beautifully landscaped plants and flowers, the birdsong and breezes; we truly felt at home away from home -- no wonder we immediately relaxed and were rather laid-back and spontaneous about taking our trips to explore this magnificent island.

Conveniently located, this beautiful place is totally private and peaceful, yet merely 1.5 miles away from Haiku Plaza, to get all you need (great cafe/eating place there), another good 3 miles to Ho'okipa Beach with its intrepid surfers (great to watch), and just another 2 miles more to Pa'ia, to get all you love (great Mana Foods, great cafe/eating places, great (window) shopping - and Baldwin Beach is just around the corner. Did we mention that Maui's beaches are not at all crowded?

Barbara and Hank are gracious and discreet hosts, and available for any inquiries one might have. Did we mention the huge oranges (and limes) we were encouraged to pick up and enjoy? Their sweetness is beyond description. One orange = one glass of orange juice (back home we're now looking rather askance at the ones we get to buy here, poor things). When the night had been cool, a soak in the hot tub out on the lanai before breakfast is some luxurious pleasure! The geckos, too, seemed to enjoy the company.

One word about the lighting: It is well designed to enhance the pleasant atmosphere, and there is enough light to read by in various cozy places - not being the general rule, it's certainly worth mentioning.

We hope this won't be our only visit!

A slice of Paradise

What a fantastic place! We were excited to stay here from description and the pictures, what we found excelled all expectations! We arrived late and tired from adventuring local spots close to the house, greeted by a basket of fruit and goodies which we find out later Hank grew organically himself. Jump strait into the enormous bed, which has to be the most comfortable I've ever slept in, to then awake to the view of an amazing valley tree tops and all kind of wildlife. Wonderful private, romantic, luxurious spot!! Thank you for our memories, we will be back.

The Perfect Escape

This cottage was one of the best parts of an amazing honeymoon. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners, the house is gorgeously decorated and situated, the views are stunning. It is in a peaceful location just a short drive away from the amazing beaches of north shore Maui. Everything in the house was so well thought through and just the perfect escape from real life. If only we could have stayed!

Even better than expected

I stayed at this cottage for 11 nights. I felt so much at home that I did not want to leave, not even to go to the beach. The views are stunning. It is very private and quiet. I really liked the sound of the water fall in the gulch below. The cottage offers anything one can dream of... fully equipped kitchen, washer, dryer, towels, beach chairs, sun umbrellas, deck chairs, BBQ, outside showers, TV, DVD and a very fast and stable internet.

Haiku town is only a few minutes by car (3 minutes to be precise) where you can find groceries, restaurants and a fitness centre (which offers weekly and daily passes for tourists). Paia town and beaches can easily be reached within 15 minutes, Makawao town is also around the corner.

Barbara and Hank, the owners of this beautiful property, are very nice people and extremely helpful.

Secluded and Romantic Island Getaway

For our first trip to Maui, my husband and I decided that we wanted to stay some place away from the hustle and bustle of the beach condos. And boy are we glad that we did!!

The cottage was spacious and perfectly sized for us. Although we love the beach we were so happy to be able to drive back to our quiet and private cottage. It was the perfect location to go explore the island -- from the drive to Hana, to Haleakala, to the western and southern parts of the island we feel like were able to see everything we wanted. And the most delicious fish market is right down the street.

If we ever decide to go back to Maui, we will not be looking for another place to stay. Thank you Barbara and Hank!

Perfect In Every Way For Our First Trip To Hawaii !!!

We stayed at "The Cottage" March 31-April 8th to celebrate 35 years of marriage, 2 retirements, and a birthday and it was perfect in every way! We knew as we drove down the citrus and flower-lined drive to the sign pointing our way to the cottage that we had found Paradise! But only for 8 nights!!

When planning a vacation and where we will stay, we look at location, cleanliness, views, amenities, and price. The cottage was near grocery stores, beaches, towns, and the best restaurant on Maui, "Mama's Fish House". The cottage was spotless and we could have eaten off of the floors inside and also outside on the lanai (deck). It was amazingly clean! The views of the water, mountains, pastures, flowers, fruits, sunrises and sunsets were unbelievable. We loved sitting on the lanai and also inside we could enjoy the views. The personal touches from our perfect hosts were something that did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

After booking, Barbara sent us a highlighted map and typed directions to help us get from the airport to the cottage. There was a magazine rack full of guidebooks to help us plan our days. Barbara had typed directions to grocery stores with comments about what they sold. The Welcome Basket was beautiful and delicious and I loved the fresh flowers on the soap and candy dishes! Hank had also left tools under the the sink, if needed, and they had laundry detergent for us to use on the front-load washer and dryer. There is so much more I could say about how wonderful our visit to the cottage was...Paradise is just the best way. My husband said we would go back next year for 2 weeks! I can't wait! Aloha Ya'll!

A DELIGHTFUL HAVEN

We have very fond memories of our visit. Topping the list would be each evening's concert of gentle sounds and the sight of the waxing moon directly overhead. We had a relaxing and restful vacation. The cottage is a delightful haven to anchor a holiday.

Most Relaxing Vacation Ever

My wife and I stayed at Barbara & Hanks cottage for 12 days this last Feb(2013). It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. Every morning we drank our coffee on the lanai overlooking the green and luscious valley that leads down to the ocean. Most mornings you could hear the waterfall in the distance.

The way the cottage is situated it makes it very private. One whole side is protected by the valley and pasture mentioned above, with not a house in sight. The rest of the cottage is surrounded by Barbara & Hanks' beautiful plants, trees, and flowers giving it a "tropical island" feel.

Everything in the cottage is first class and it includes everything you would need. We enjoyed coming home from a day of exploring and relaxing by putting on some island music and using the gas grill to cook steaks and/or fish for dinner. My wife and I agree that the king size bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in.

Finally the location of the cottage was perfect. It's far enough away from the touristy attractions to give you the "real" Hawaii feel; yet, you are only minutes away from restaurants and grocery stores. South side beaches are 20 minutes away. It is simply an "awesome" place to stay!!

Honeymoon Privacy

Our stay at your cottage was excellent. It was much shorter than we would have liked, but I guess that's how the world works. We got married on Maui and it was perfect, but it was so nice to be able to come home to the cottage every night and have privacy. The cottage is just perfect. It has everything you need plus the privacy you will appreciate at the end of each day. We definitely miss being there and we will come back.

Thank you Barbara and Hank for the wonderful stay in Maui.

Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage! It was key to a most lovely and relaxing vacation for us. Everything was perfect and then you both made it even better with the lovely offerings from Hank's garden.

A perfect Mix of Relaxation and Adventure

This cottage is a true gem, we had the best time! Hank & Barbara are gracious hosts. They are very friendly and accommodating. Excellent job with the cottage. Everything is pristine and comfortable.

The view is even better than the pictures! The location is also perfect because there is easy access to Haleakala, the Road to Hana, cool little towns of Haiku and Paia, and the various beaches of Maui.

There is not a better place to stay in Maui if you are looking for a memorable vacation. We can't wait to come back!

Absolutely perfect!

We couldn't have stayed at a more perfect place! The cottage and grounds are beautiful. There were flowers everywhere! A dream vacation and the perfect place to stay!

We recently visited Maui for the first time to celebrate our 29th anniversary and had the pleasure of staying at Hookipa Bayview Cottage in upcountry Haiku. The moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were in paradise. From the Hawaiian music playing on the stereo, to the welcome fruit basket on the table and fresh cut flowers in a vase, we knew this was no ordinary vacation. Barbara and Hank had thought of everything we could possibly need to enjoy Maui. What a pleasure to wake up to the sounds of tropical birds and have that first sip of coffee on the lanai, looking out at the Pacific Ocean.

The cottage is perfectly located, right off the Road to Hana, and about 1/2 hour from the wonderful South Maui beaches. Great shopping and fun restaurants in Paia await, just a short drive away. The cottage was such a welcome respite, after a day of touring. We loved the ability to unwind with a glass of wine on the lanai, watch the sunset over the West Maui mountains, and feel incredibly lucky that we had found the perfect secluded place to celebrate our anniversary. Sadly, our week went way too quickly, but we know we will return to Maui, and when we do, we will stay once again at Hookipa Bayview Cottage.

Paradise

So ...you need to close your eyes and envision what it would be like to live in Paradise. Waking up in the morning from a wonderful sleep in an extremely comfortable bed. Before you open your eyes , you feel the balmy breezes floating through the sliding doors on two sides of the cottage and birds softly singing to you. You finally open your eyes( while still in bed) and see lush vegetation with bright flowers including bananas hanging from trees. You finally decide to arise to be greeted to the rolling hills and vegetation from your panoramic view. You take your morning refreshments and sit at the patio table for 2 on the two sided porch and say continuously...this truly is a romantic paradise.

The cottage absolutely has all the comforts of home with very impressive quality. Even though Barb refers to it as < the cottage> luxury is abound. When you leave the cottage for the day, you travel down a private lane peppered with Hawaiian flowers and your hardest decision for the day will be whether to turn right or left . When you return in the evening, it is truly like coming home where you can enjoy a cool drink on the porch while creating wonderful smells on the impressive high quality BBQ. You can read a book, watch TV , play cards ( even provided) or just talk about your awesome day. When you turn in for the evening you lay in bed and think how fortunate life is that you have had the opportunity to meet two special people such as Barb and Hank and that they shared their little bit of paradise with you. Before nodding off you can hear a nearby waterfall lulling you to sleep, and before you know it , you are hearing the birds coaxing you awake in the morning. Words cannot express the Paradise that Barb and Hank have created including the black cows with white socks in the distant meadows.

We will be back >>> that is a promise !

Charming & Relaxing Cottage Escape

We're very happy we chose this cheerful cottage for our honeymoon stay. It's away from the congested hotels, yet close to the airport, beaches, shops & restaurants. It's an easy, scenic drive to other island areas. Cottage is nestled in area surrounded by beautiful & fragrant trees & flowers & overlooks a deep lush gulch. The cottage is very comfortable/charming in décor. The area is very clean, spacious & functional. Barbara & Hank are wonderful hosts.

The place is fully stocked with all sorts of necessities. They thought of everything for your home away from home. When our paths crossed during our stay, they checked to make sure you weren't in need of anything. The panoramic view from the lanai is spectacular. Such a pleasure to enjoy the evening sunsets & arise to the beautiful view of the nearby fields, gleaming bay & the majestic west mountains each day. The area is very tranquil & serene - no road traffic or noisy nearby neighbors during any time of the day. We found the cottage to be delightful & far superior than a hotel room & much cozier than a condo unit.

Great constant gentle breezes. It was very comfortable to relax in or outdoors during the day as well as sleeping during the evening. We appreciated the invitation to cut & enjoy the grounds' flowers which we did. Hank also has an outstanding garden with quite a variety of produce that he willingly offers up for you to enjoy. Something is always ready for harvesting & consuming-can't get any fresher or better than that! We are looking forward to returning one day soon.

Didn't Want to Leave!

Yes, we loved Maui and all it had to offer; the beaches, hiking, perfect weather and funky up country towns nearby. What made our stay so lovely though was coming back to the cottage every day knowing we had ambiance galore with seclusion, quiet, and beautiful views waiting for us. The architecture and design of the cottage is beautiful with a lanai that provides views of lush valley, hills and ocean. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfasts and later gin and tonics while watching the sunsets. Barbara and Hank were the perfect hosts - unobtrusive yet there if you needed them. Knowing we'll be back next year (we've already booked) made leaving easier but only just a little!

Haiku Paradise

This was my fourth trip to Maui and my first staying "up country". After staying in Barbara and Hank's Haiku paradise I won't be going back to the Four Seasons anytime soon. The cottage was perfect, beyond expectation. Hank and Barbara provide everything we needed, coolers, beach chairs, a welcome fruit basket, etc. They were there when we needed them and otherwise invisible.

Perfect secluded home away from home

We absolutely loved staying at Hank and Barbara's guest cottage, the Hookipa Bayview Cottage, for 8 nights in November 2011. When we travel, we prefer a secluded house (or apartment if we are in bigger cities) to staying in hotels and resorts, and Hank and Barbara's cottage was absolutely perfect in every way. We loved going in the bustle and hustle during the day (most activities in South or West Maui are 30-45 minutes away) and coming back to this quiet house with a gorgeous view on the valley (and the ocean and West Maui ), barbequing and sitting on the lanai. Hank and Barbara were kind enough to offer us fresh vegetables and herbs from their garden every day, and provided us with fruit as well. On nights we didn't want to cook, Paia is minutes away with tons of great restaurants. The cottage is extremely well stocked (even found a French press which we used), clean and nicely decorated. We loved the bed (which is a king), the many sliding doors, the lanai that goes around half of the house, the sound of the waterfall on rainy nights. It was perfect in every way!

"We loved this place !"

Hookipa Bayview after a long flight from Europe, what a delight to rest at Hookipa Bayview cottage. We were warmly welcomed by Barbara and Hank, with beautiful flowers and and delicious welcoming basket (oh these fresh foods !). Barbara and Hank were helpful if you need them (thank you for the list of markets and groceries to keep in the car!) , and yet very discrete. The cottage is spacious, very comfortable, clean and very well maintained. We appreciated every convenience and amenities (i.e. washer/dryer). The surroundings are stupendous, as well as the views to the ocean and West Maui Mountains. Secluded in green, tropical environment full of flowers, and yet close access to Hookipa Beach Park to watch the surfers, to Hana Road and Haleakala Road. Maui Upcountry has lovely places to discover too (Makawao, Waihou Springs Trail, Botanical Gardens ...). After a visiting or hiking day, what a pleasure to come back to this private oasis of quietness ! We recommend this address to anyone seeking another Maui than the touristic and crowded places. Mahalo Barbara and Hank for sharing your wonderful place.

The setting was as close to paradise as we've been.

What a wonderful place to spend our 30th wedding anniversary! The cottage was perfect for 2 people and had everything we needed-- kitchen, linens were well stocked and the house was super clean. Hank and Barbara respected our privacy, yet were there and helpful if we needed them. Hank's bananas were great!! The setting of the cottage is beautiful--lush vegetation and the flowers--oh, the flowers!! We had most of our meals on the deck and the aroma of the flowers was wonderful. For our plans, the cottage was in a perfect central location--other towns/beaches that we were interested in were within one hour or less of the cottage. Great place to stay--we would definitely stay there again if we go back and it's just the two of us.

Unforgettable Vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kline's cottage. It was everything we hoped for and more! The online photos were beautiful and the actual cottage, and it's surroundings, even more so! Every convenience was provided, from beach towels and chairs, to a blow dryer, and even a French Press for coffee. The washer and dryer out back made it easy to clean up after a day at the beach. Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts and were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit. They even provided a CD guided tour for the Road to Hana. They made us feel like we'd been friends forever! The island is just breathtaking, the food was awesome and the hospitality even better. We are already plotting and planning our next trip. We will definitely be back! Thank you Barbara and Hank!

I highly recommend this place; everything about it was fantastic

I manage about 90 private home vacation rentals, most of which are luxury properties, and I've always vacationed at private home rentals rather than hotels. This vacation home is as good as it gets! The home itself is gorgeous and the surrounding property and views are fantastic. It is fully equipped with everything you would want or expect in a high end luxury property. Hank and Barbara are the most gracious hosts I've ever dealt with...there in a heartbeat if you need them, but "invisible" if you don't, combining great service with complete privacy. And the location is ideal...about 20-25 minutes from the airport, but completely out in the country away from the hustle and bustle of being in town. Everything about is is perfect. Both as a professional in the same business, and as a private vacationer, I very highly recommend this place to you. When I return to Maui its where I will stay again! Aloha

Relaxing and peaceful haven on Maui

My partner and I recently stayed at the lovely Hookipa Bayview Cottage. The location is right in Haiku and is very central on the island and not far (but plenty far enough) from the airport. The cottage served as a great jumping off point for our many adventures the first part of our stay on Maui. It's right near Upcountry (we fell in love with Makawao) and is well on the way to the Haleakala Crater, which is where we spent a good portion of our trip. It's also a great place to start your drive to Hana, which is a must. And even West Maui wasn't too far away, as we spent several days on that part of the island, too. As for the place itself, its very clean and homey and is surrounded by lush and peaceful gardens. We particularly loved dining on the lanai every night, looking out over the bay and the beautiful meadow right next to the cottage. You can't imagine a more peaceful setting. The bed and furniture was very comfortable and we were able to get the much needed rest and relaxation that we were seeking. Barbara was a gracious host and made us feel very welcome, with plenty of instructions for the house, a lovely arrival gift basket, and an in-person visit and follow-up check-in phone call to make sure all was well. Barbara and Hank live in the main house. There is plenty of privacy and they are very courteous neighbors. We were very sad to leave and are already planning for our next visit.

The Real Hawaii

Many travelers who vacation in Hawaii really do seem to miss out on the true nature of the islands. It can probably even be assumed many vacationers are looking for that misleading "Hawaii Five-0" excitement. Shame, shame. Hawaiian paradise goes far beyond sipping margaritas on a sun-kissed beach, enjoying a luxury massage by the poolside, or spending hours shopping on the streets of Honolulu. Hawaii is a culture, and to truly experience this culture, one needs to know where to look: Tucked away in the luscious hills on the island of Maui, there is a small dirt path closely guarded between groves of banana and orange trees. Driving up this path you will discover a charming little cottage overlooking the Ho'okipa Bay and warmly embraced by surrounding tropical flowers and green vegetation. In the evenings you can hear a distant howl of a wind, forewarning the hills of a light mist to come, an experience that is hauntingly beautiful. The Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage is located only within minutes from the tiny rustic town of Paia, and situated right on the way to the famous Hana Highway. During your stay at the cottage, you will begin to feel like a true Hawaiian local. This is the real Hawaii.

It was a great start in our honeymoon

Hank and Barbara have a beautiful place with a wonderful garden. A lot of flowers around and in the house. We really enjoyed our stay there. It was a silent place where you can relax with a beautiful view. It is a good place to start trips to every destination on Maui. We had a great time there and we would love to come back one day.

Best vacation ever!!!

My wife and I stayed at the cottage to celebrate our tenth anniversary. It was the best vacation ever and the cottage was the best part of it. Barbara and Hank are warm, friendly, and gracious hosts. The cottage was very clean, well maintained, and stunningly beautiful. It's very quiet with a great view of the ocean and West Maui. If you want to be surrounded by sunburned tourists and cheap jewelry this is not the place for you. If what you want is peace, quiet, and the undivided attention of your significant other, there is no place better. We can't wait to come back. I urge anyone who wants a wonderful vacation to stay here.

Great place to experience Maui

Our stay at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was fantastic! Barbara and Hank are the perfect hosts...available if you need them, otherwise you have complete privacy. The cottage has everything you need and more...Bbq, Washer/Dryer, Iron, Cable, Internet, Pots/Pans, Flashlight, etc. You can tell that Barbara & Hank put a lot of thought into making sure their guests are very comfortable. The cottage has beautiful ocean and mountain views which can be constantly enjoyed through the floor to ceiling windows and lanai that surrounds the cottage. It is secluded and private, yet close to shops, restaurants, beaches, and all kinds of activities. We enjoyed the local town atmosphere to the touristy resort environment and feel it was the best way to experience Maui. We highly recommend the Hookipa Bayview Cottage and we definitely plan on returning the next time we go back to Maui.

Peaceful Cottage and Gardens - best relaxing vacation

We loved the peace and quiet, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of our cottage. The house offers everything you need for a comfortable stay - including folding seats we didn't think we'd use but they came handy to rest and have lunch on the beach after surfing :) The garden, lovingly and carefully designed and tended to, is full of enchanting flowery smells. Surfing and exploring Maui didn't leave us enough time to unwind at the cottage. But every minute spent there was just what we had dreamed: carefree relaxing precious moments.

A Honeymoon Paradise in Maui

If you are looking for the best place for your honeymoon or your anniversary - you have found it. We have spent a memorable week here! Staying at this cottage made our honeymoon absolutely fantastic. It has everything you need: first class location for driving to all parts of the island, very nice house equipped with everything you can imagine, panoramic bay view from the lanai, wonderful flowers and friendly owner. When we decided to choose this cottage, we have seen that is is very nice; but when we arrived, we didn't find the right word for it. The whole cottage is breathtaking, we felt like we were in paradise! We will come back, because we have to live through it again!

This is a wonderful place to experience Maui. The view from the guest house is magnificent with a waterfall nearby which you can hear after a rainfall. The home is immaculate and secluded. Lovely Maui Holiday

Our Maui holiday was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary with a lovely relaxing stay at Barbara & Hank's cottage. This was our first trip to Maui and we loved the tucked away serene location, yet a only a short drive to any corner of the island. We spent each day driving a different direction finding many restaurants, beaches, and shopping to explore. The cottage was clean and tastefully decorated, large windows leading to a wrap around lanai with a breathtaking view. Nestled in it's own tropical garden the cottage was roomy and quaint. A fully stocked kitchen with great grocery shopping near by....loved being able to bbq anytime! Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts! Thank you, and hope to see you again!

Beauty and Peace

After more than 40 trips to Hawaii over the years, we now seek out those special places to stay that provide peace, beauty and seclusion. This cottage is a unique fit for our criteria. We plan to make this our Maui stop from now on. The owners, Barbara and Hank, are very pleasant and caring and provide accessible and appropriate hostessing without intrusion. They are a delight to share a glass of wine with. We enjoyed the vistas and the green lush setting of this cottage located literally on the edge of a major gulch with ocean views and the West Maui mountains and Molokai in the background. Haiku, Paia, Makawao, and beaches are only minutes away.

Our home away from home

Aloha. We are Warren & Diana from Elkhart in. We have vacationed on Maui five times previously at a lovely resort, right on the beach, for two weeks per year. We then decided to get away fro the crowd & the pseudo Hawaii resort scene to a more affordable, quiet, peaceful & authentic place. Fortunately we discovered Hookipa Bayview cottage in Upcountry Maui.

The cottage is immaculate, open & airy and comfortable. The view of the bay & mountains from the lanai is spectacular. Hank & Barbara are the perfect hosts. They are efficient, yet, friendly without being intrusive. We enjoy the scenic byways & small villages of Upcountry Maui. There are many fine restaurants with good food & local musical entertainment. The citrus fruit, pineapple fields, & fragrant colorful tropical flowers add a special touch to the island experience. Awe inspiring are the rainbows appearing & disappearing as the sun shines through a gently soft & misty rain, all adding to the almost ethereal atmosphere of Upcountry Maui.

We like to relax with coffee & fresh scones while sitting at the Hookipa Bay Overlook watching the surfers & wind surfers ride the waves. Great place to catch a glimpse of whales also.

The cottage is located near everything we enjoy and yet is tucked away in a peaceful & quiet location. We have been able to stay at Hookipa Bayview cottage for an entire month each year for the past three years and are looking forward to coming back again in 2011. We love it at Hookipa Bayview cottage.

Best place to stay in Maui

We were married during our visit to Maui. We stayed at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage. We knew ahead of time that the cottage would be nice, but it far exceeded our expectations. It was roomy, clean and met our every need. The surroundings were absolutely gorgeous and it must be the most private accommodation on the island. We also felt that we were only minutes from the most beautiful beach on the island. A big thank you to Barbara and Hank for sharing this gem with us on our very special occasion

Fantastic Honeymoon

We selected this cheerful cottage for our honeymoon accommodations and were very happy that we did. Located in the "real" Maui, it is ideally situated on the island with easy access to all points. It is away from the congested hotels, yet close to the airport, beaches, shops and restaurants. It is an easy, scenic and pleasurable drive to the other island areas.

There was so much to take in upon our arrival. It was so pleasant to enter the property driveway and travel through the orchard trees, tropical plants and colorful flowers into our private circular driveway. The cottage is nestled in an area surrounded by beautiful and fragrant trees and flowers and overlooks a deep lush gulch. On several evenings, we heard the waterfall.

The cottage is very comfortable and charming in decor. When we entered the cottage, we were greeted with a generous welcome basket which we very much appreciated and enjoyed during our stay. The area is very clean, spacious and functional. We liked the layout and openness of it - in particular, the beautiful high vaulted wood-beamed ceilings. There's lots of light coming through the large sliding doors on the two out-looking walls, and many windows throughout. Barbara & Hank are wonderful hosts. The place is fully stocked with all sorts of necessities (kitchen supplies, hair dryer, iron, beach items, bbq, etc.) They have thought of everything for your home away from home. When our paths crossed during our stay, they checked to make sure you weren't in need of anything.

The panoramic view from the lanai is spectacular. It was such a pleasure to enjoy the evening sunsets and to arise to the beautiful view of the nearby fields, the gleaming bay and the majestic west mountains each day. The area is very tranquil and serene - no road traffic. We found the cottage to be delightful and far superior than a hotel room and much cozier than a condo unit.

Initially, I was concerned about not having any air conditioning. Although, located on the windward side of the island, I still thought I may be uncomfortable without it, but I assure you, there is no need for concern. We enjoyed the constant gentle breezes flowing through cottage along with the use of the ceiling fans. Additionally, with the cottage opened up, we took in the sounds of the tropical forest surroundings and those melodic birds which we may have otherwise missed out on. It was very comfortable to relax in or outdoors during the day as well as sleeping during the evening.

We appreciated the invitation to cut and enjoy the grounds' flowers which we did. Hank also has an outstanding garden with quite a variety of produce that he willingly offers up for you to enjoy. Something is always ready for harvesting and consuming - can't get any fresher or better than that!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and have many fond memories of our stay here. We are looking forward to returning one day soon.

So Peaceful!

My husband and i went for 2 wks honeymoon.

Cottage is spotless/comforting with a fruit basket that Hank and Barb left for us with flowers. They live close-by and are friendly, helpful, good at letting us enjoy the seclusion of the cottage. We woke to birds/gentle breezes, felt like we were in paradise! Tiny geckos (harmless) are common. The cottage is beautiful/open. High-beamed ceilings and hardwood floors make it feel both rustic and exotic. We had breakfast at the table on wrap-around lanai. Nice views of the bay and the valley. Grounds covered with flowers, trees. Bbq and laundry around the back! Also found beach chairs, cooler, towels.

Haiku town is lovely, far from tourist zones. We did see all those areas eventually and everyday had plans but coming back to the cottage each evening was refreshing, better than busy, bustling hotel area. Do note that its a bit of a drive to anywhere on the island but it's a central location. We enjoyed cooking our own meals with micro, coffee pot, and BBQ! Good to save $, healthy, and no typical vacation stomach issues. We liked the variety of fruits/veggies available. Hank is generous to offer some of his home-grown! Bananas were our fav! Hank and Barb were generous to all our requests. Ask and you shall receive! Each evening we'd relax after our adventures enjoying tv/radio, lounge on the lanai from which i'd watch the sunset and read. In the mountains weather varies quite a bit from our hotter/drier destinations. Almost always sunny/warm. But quite a few quick misty rains to cool the air.

If you are looking for privacy/relaxation, this cottage is for you! Comfortable, cozy, quiet, not your typical vacation rental. For those who are looking to get away, enjoy each other, nature, and the serenity of being in 'upcountry' Maui.

Beautiful Tropical Retreat

It was our first visit to Maui and this lovely cottage made it a fantastic and memorable one! Haiku is a quiet village away from touristy areas and we liked it a lot. Many thanks to Barbara & Hank, this property has all you need for a comfortable stay and even more - first you enter the flowering driveway you will find Hank's beautiful tropical garden - he is a gifted gardener! Then a sweet welcome basket of hawaiian treats on the dining table relieve your jet lag - we loved their homegrown bananas! Spotless and beautifully furnished island style rooms make you feel at home, and once you open the large sliding doors the rooms are filled with bright natural light and tropical breeze. The view from the lanai is just breathtaking and a must-see!

We liked to have breakfast on the lanai and enjoy peaceful morning with colorful birds and rainbows. Beach towels and a cold box in the closet came in handy when we went surfing. Oh, don't forget to grab the straw mat from the backyard as well. We stayed for a week and explored the whole island, and felt sure that we have chosen the best place to stay on Maui. One of our most unforgettable memories is the beautiful sunrise from the top of Haleakara...it was indeed amazing, but what we miss most is those wonderful time we spent at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage. Barbara & Hank - thanks again for everything, we really hope to return!

Serene Retreat

My husband and I stayed in three areas while on Maui: a condo on the beach, a resort and Barbara and Hank's cottage. This is the perfect setting for those who desire a peaceful retreat. One small green bird perched on my husband for an extended visit one morning while we were having our coffee - thats how friendly this spot is.

A Private Retreat in Paradise
This cottage was the perfect size for the two of us. You really feel like you're on your own private island. I loved waking up to the birds chirping and the sounds of the breeze in the trees. You can tell the owners are meticulous about maintaining the property-everything was spotless. It isn't on the beach, in fact it's not in a touristy part of the island, which was a plus for us. You really get the feel for what it's like to be a local. You can easily get to the touristy areas by car (less than an hour to most places). Grilling some of Hank's fresh asparagus was a real treat (so were the rest of the veggies he grows!)

Barbara & Hank, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Maui and especially in your absolutely "perfect" cottage, nestled in the hills and away from the crowds in the touristy areas of the island. It was exactly what we had hoped for -peaceful retreat that allowed us some time to read and relax and decide how much and what we wanted to see on the rest of the island. When we returned to the cottage after a day of exploring, it was so calming to drive up the driveway and pull up next to your comfortable cottage. We both marvel at how well designed and built the cottage is --it shows how much you value the comfort of your visitors. Again, thanks for everything you did and offered to do. We would definitely recommend your cottage to our friends and hope to return some day soon.

We had the most wonderfully secluded honeymoon we could imagine. Thank you so much for your hospitality and cottage rental. Unfortunately it is back to reality for us now! "The experience at the Hookipa Bayview Cottage was very relaxing."

The accomodations were easy to set up with Barbara and no surprises along the way. The cottage was spotless when we arrived. The home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. For anyone who loves Maui, as Elaine and I do, a stay at Barbara and Hank's "Honeymoon Cottage" is a must. Away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts, you really begin to feel like you know the island. It's tempting to think that Maui should be called "The Garden Isle" as you enjoy the wonderful flowering bushes and trees surrounding this cozy getaway. Yes, it's a bit of a drive to the South Maui beaches, but Baldwin Park, with a great beach, and Ho'okipa Lookout (great for watching the wind surfers) are very close by. And if your agenda includes Hana and Haleakala, or lunch/dinner at Mama's Fish House, they're a lot closer than if you were staying in the resort area.

Most likely, everything you might need is provided. And, if not, Barbara and Hank are right next door to answer your needs. A treat for us was some of the most tasty parsley we have ever eaten, fresh from Hank's garden. We were a little too early for Maui onions, but I'll bet he could be talked out of one for your salad or hamburger when they're in season.

In short, a beautiful, restful place to stay - it's on our list for a return.

This being our first visit to Maui & both being independent travelers/surfers/windsurfers, when looking for accommodation we needed a place that was close to the north shore & allowed us to come and go as we pleased.

Not only this we also need somewhere quiet & relaxing after long days on Maui's awesome beaches & seeing some of its stunning countryside. The Cottage provided this and more. Surrounded by stunning tropical garden plants that fill the air with a fragrance better than any perfume you'll ever buy,in a location that overlooks woodland, pineapple fields & Ho'okipa bay in the distance,a breathtaking view as you sip coffee or juice in the morning, one you just have to see!!.The inside of the cottage wont disappoint either, built in a traditional style with stunning wood floors & high vaulted ceilings, beautiful furniture & just about everything you have in your house Hank & Barbra have provided in the Cottage for your vacation, they really have thought of everything.

We were lucky enough to spend our time not just windsurfing & surfing but travelled the length & breadth of Maui discovering the island for ourselves places no tour would ever take you & also checked out a few of the so called exclusive places, hotels & accommodation on the south of the island (the ones you'll see in the brochure's) The Ho'okipa Bay View beats them all, here you'll have it all to yourself. Just spend a week or two & check this place out you'll be hooked for life. We'll be back for sure & it takes a day or more for us to travel there from the UK.

Best Wishes Hank & Barbara
Many thanks once again

Dear Hank and Barbara,
Chris and I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Since we live out in the country in Portland it was much like being at home for us. Very private, very comfortable and very clean. It is one of the cleanest homes we have ever stayed in. It was so nice to come home each night to our place away from crowds.

We did not mind the commute to the beaches or wherever we chose to go. We felt in fact that this allowed us to feel less like visitors and more like island residents. It gave us a chance each day to see the same views change as the weather changed. Driving past Ho'okipa Bay each day is a wonderful treat. We especially liked being able to take back roads to get up to the crater as we avoided traffic from the other direction.

I loved the washer and dryer location outdoors. The experience was like being in a well protected tree house. We love having the outdoor come in as well as the indoor out, so your home was perfect with all the patio doors and windows and the protected deck.

For anyone who wants to save money and not go out to eat a bunch, we found the kitchen very easy to work in. We appreciated having a cooler, beach chairs and towels provided. We were able to pack a lunch each day and take it with us.

We cooked in every evening and ate twice for breakfast at Charley's. We had friends over to celebrate Chris's birthday. Chris loved the gas grill so much that we made a last minute stop on our last night there to buy steaks to grill out with.

Next time we will stay longer so we can enjoy a few days just hanging around the cottage. It is very peaceful and there are many nice area roads to walk on.

We truly had a tropical experience. Rainbows, cardinals in the tree near the deck, Tradewinds, sunsets and more.

Mahalo and regards,

Lori and Chris

A great place to stay on Maui
Our stay at the Aloha Hookipa Bayview Cottage was an extremely pleasant experience. As it is located in central Maui, it provided an excellent base for my wife and me to tour the entire island. The well landscaped setting is very private and extremely quiet, yet only a few miles away from routes to easily access Haleakala National Park, west Maui, and the road to Hana. The cottage is roomy, very clean, and comfortable. After only a few minutes it felt just like home. Everything we needed was provided from a toaster for our breakfast toast to a gas grill to prepare our evening meal. There were even scissors to cut a few of the beautiful flowers surrounding the cottage that Barbara welcomed us to cut! It is definitely a great place to stay if you want to avoid the crowds yet see and experience the island of Maui.

Peace and quiet with everything close by
Barbara and Hank Kline have an absolutely wonderful vacation/honeymoon cottage tucked away in Haiku, Maui, just 15 minutes from the perfectly sized small town of Paia. The cottage is situated on 2 acres of their gorgeously self-landscaped property, which you will with their main residence, but the house and cottage are invisible to each other due to the ample landscaping. Spend some time with Hank in his impressive vegetable garden, or talk to them about the myriad of flowers and foliage decorating their property.

The cottage is newly constructed and perfectly sized for two. There are so many full length windows that no matter which way your turn, its nearly impossible not to see the hillside of Haleakala, the ocean, or the beautiful landscaping. The Kline's provide everything you could ever need, such as pots & pans, washer & dryer, beach chairs, beach mats, cookware, plates, silverware, king size bed, plush bath and beach towels, the list could go on and on. If you needed it, they had it! (they also encourage you to ask them if something you need happens to not already be in the cottage.) Hank and Barbara have stocked their magazine rack with local restaurant menus from the nearby towns of Haiku and Paia. The cottage is very quiet, we were never woken up by any type of outside noise, even sleeping with the windows open. The cottage is situated 5 minutes from the Hana Highway, where you're already 10 miles into the road to Hana (past the boring part). The cottage is located such that you never have to drive very far to get to great local beaches or restaurants (10 min tops), and its under a 40 minute drive to South Maui and about an hour to West Maui.

We found the cottage to fit our needs perfectly. Barbara and Hank are super friendly and have done a tremendous job providing everything you could want for a perfect Maui getaway nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Maui tourists. We would recommend this cottage to anyone and we look forward to a return trip!!

Maui Perfection
Our stay at Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage was perfect. Barb and Hank thought of everything to make us comfortable and welcome. The cottage and grounds were immaculate and so well stocked with everything we needed. It was so peaceful and we will tell everyone where to stay when they visit Maui!

Wonderfully Relaxing Get-Away
My wife and I stayed a week, enough time to relax and refresh us. The cottage is bright, airy and very clean. Although within site of the main house, the cottage has its own driveway and is very private. Barbara and Hank have included everything needed for a wonderful holiday, even beach towels, beach chairs and a cold box.

We enjoyed spectacular sunsets, rainbows, real (warm) rain and the sweet smells and sounds that can only come from a rain forest environment.

We definitely want to return!

Paradise in Maui
I can't say enough about how wonderful Hookipa Bayview Cottage was. Everything was pristine clean. Everything you need is there. The BBQ was in mint condition. There was a hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker. All the comforts of home and more. Not only was the location beautiful to sit on the great lanai and see the bay below, but at night there was a wonderful breeze and you were never really hot. It was perfect. I would go back in a heartbeat. We also discovered a nice little restaurant in Haiku with entertainment on Monday nights. It was great. We stayed 11 days and loved every one of them. I would encourage everyone to stay for at least 7-8 minimum in order to see the island in it's entirety. Definitely our best lodging experience in all of the Hawaiian Islands.

"We've stayed at the adorable Ho'okipa Bay View Cottage with its secluded gardens for two glorious weeks and loved it so much that we stayed there again the following year.

We love to windsurf and staying on the North Shore of Maui was a must for us. We found the cottage just as beautiful and our stay just as enjoyable on our second visit. The cottage is immaculate, beautifully furnished and very well maintained and the view of the Ocean across Maui's pineapple fields is spectacular.

Hank & Barbara thought of everything to ensure our stay was comfortable, and we most definitely recommend staying in this secluded, romantic cottage in Haiku. We loved the cottage and its location in Haiku so much that it resulted in us buying property very close by and have now built our own home there."

"Wonderful cottage! My husband and I spent a week in this cottage two years ago, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We loved it so much that we returned this April for another week!

A great location... close to beaches, charming little towns, up-country hikes, or... perfect for just relaxing right there. There is a gorgeous view from the porch. The plantings around the cottage are lovely. The interior is charming...

Barbara and Hank have done a great job making sure that guests have everything they could possibly need. It was hard to leave, but we're already looking forward to our next visit!"

Absolutely beautiful and relaxing.

This beautiful cottage is in a private setting with wonderful views from the deck. Being on the north shore of Maui it is a bit more relaxing and slower paced than being on the west shore, but nevertheless not a long drive to Lahaina. The cottage is close to the start of the drive to Hana and the drive up Haleakala. The cottage is extremely well equipped and the owners Barbara and Hank have thought of everything, including beach chairs and a cooler to take to the beach. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable. We enjoyed returning to the cottage after a busy day of Maui activities as we found it so peaceful and relaxing. We often enjoyed using the barbecue and eating on the deck that overlooks Ho'okipa Bay instead of going out for meals
